Provincial coverage and private benefits are different
Massage therapy is not generally covered by the Alberta Health Care Insurance Plan. An employer or private extended-health plan may include eligible massage services, with its own limits and provider requirements.
Check your own plan
Look for massage therapist benefits in your insurer’s portal. Confirm your remaining annual amount, reimbursement percentage, per-visit limit, referral requirements and practitioner eligibility. Two plans from the same insurer can provide different coverage.
Direct billing is a convenience, not a guarantee
Hayahay can submit eligible claims to participating insurers when the plan, therapist and treatment allow it. An insurer may decline a claim or pay only part of it. You remain responsible for an unpaid balance.
Before your appointment
Bring your insurance details and valid identification. Call the clinic to ask whether predetermination is available for your plan. Your insurer is the best source for your specific coverage. Consult the Government of Alberta’s AHCIP information for provincial coverage.
